Glass Half Full by Lucy Rocca, best-selling author of The Sober Revolution.

In April 2011, Lucy Rocca woke up in a hospital bed with no memory of how she had ended up there. After accepting that her drinking had spiralled out of control, she made the decision there and then to never touch alcohol again. However, the early days were a challenge, and Lucy began recording her journey in a blog as a way of helping herself move forward to a happy and sober future.

For someone who defined herself by her love of drinking for over twenty years, letting go of the booze crutch was initially a challenge, but over time, Lucy began to realise how much happier she was living alcohol-free. Glass Half Full is the story of her journey from hopelessly devoted wine fiend to sober and truly happy for the first time in her adult life.

As the founder of, Lucy’s blog also provides motivational and inspirational support for those seeking an alcohol-free life.

I can relate to a lot of Lucy’s story in this book, as a male born in 1978 I too started drinking at the age of 13/14 starting off in my local parks and then moving on to the nightclubs and bars of Manchester. It was the whole Manchester scene then, Oasis, Brit-Pop, Loaded magazine culture that seemed to dominate the culture of myself and my peers. It was cool to drink yourself into oblivion every weekend, get a bit lairy and take drugs. I have only known his type of drinking, I cannot have one or two drinks now, I never saw the point in it. I think this decade of lad/ladette culture has a lot to answer for.

Just finished this book after reading The Sober Revolution (also highly recommended) and it’s incredibly positive and uplifting, just what I needed. After finishing this book I know that I will never drink alcohol again. And I will feel happy with my decision for the rest of my life.

This book made me download it and read it…….just because the title grabbed me. I couldn’t have imagined it would have such a massive impact on my life. Every word written, every experience the author had and every feeling alcohol leaves her with could be mine. I am only a week in to an AF life but if I can do it at this point in my life I can do it forever.

I have read countless books in my struggle with alcohol and this is without doubt the best for me. I could identify with it so much. Loved the earlier book but found this one written in diary format even better. Such an easy read and so truthful, will read again.

good ideas but…

I love the Soberistas website and love the six week plan! I think Lucy is great BUT… as a 40 year old woman struggling with alcohol misuse myself over the last five years (and all the attendant financial nightmares, job loss, divorce, regret, panic that this usually brings) I can’t help but feel a bit let down that Lucy describes getting sober as an outcome of forming a relationship to her nice man.

Great read. Read as many as you need to …

Only until sober for a decent amount of time can you really see the hold and carnage that alcoHELL has on the society we live in.

Wow what a read, i managed it in one sitting. Having read lots on the subject of sobriety and/or alcoholism, this book spoke to me in ways none of the others have. perhaps that because i have lots in common with lucy, same age (around) but the similarities not just with the while cultural thing, but the emotions that couple chronic binge drinking, yes i could relate. what i most loved about this book was that it really convinces you that life is better sober. the author even uses graphic imagery and descriptive examples of a scenario drunk or sober to really impact this message. Well done Lucy, a fabulous inspiring read for anyone who wants to stay sober but is ‘dithering’.
