This is an interesting introduction into the world of cheap self publishing. There isn’t anything you can’t find in other places inside but it’s a nice little compilation of those tidbits, full of links to other resources. Good for someone new to self publishing on a budget.

There are tons of fantastic resources out there for indie authour, but I have found none so useful as this one. Geared toward newbies like me who are finishing their first book and wondering how to self publish it without going into debt, the book offers tons of practical advice to get that launch moving. I have never highlighted and bookmarked a book as much as I did this one; there’s good stuff on every page! I am much less overwhelmed by the prospect of launching my book now, and I fully expect to come back to this resource again and again as I get closer to my launch.

Bootstrapping for Indies by Simon Whistler is a quick, informative guide to help beginning and/or would-be indie authors find cost-effective and/or free ways to publish their books. To give a frame of reference, the book took me roughly an hour to read. The book is divided up into concise sections, making it just as easy to read out-of-order as it is to read it chronologically.

Great for start up indie authors.

//Bootstrapping for Indies// by Simon Whistler is a fantastic resource for writers with an interest in independent, professional publishing. With “indie” publishing becoming an ever-growing phenomenon, budding authors are in need of high-quality resources in order to produce professional products. While publishing a book can be a pricy prospect, putting self-publishing out of reach for some writers, Simon shows how with a little ingenuity writers can bootstrap their way to success without sacrificing quality in their work.

I wish I had this when I started writing!

Wonderful resource for new and upcoming indies. I’ve used a large number of the tips that Simon recommends in the process of going from an aspiring author to writing full time, having replaced my income. They work, and I know this from experience.

This book is short and too the point. I actually love the book and how short and sweet it is. I’ve wanted a simple book to share with friends who are new to self-publishing, but some of the books (even with great info) are just too much for the newbit to swallow.

Simon’s newest offering for the indie audience is packed with information that can help beginning authors get their words out into the world. Starting with the premise that new authors may have little money to invest in their enterprise, Simon gives page after page of practical advice garnered from his Rocking Self Publishing Podcast interviews of the last few years. Many books of this size are mostly motivational or fluff, but not this one. You will find not only his distillation of important actions you can take to get your author enterprise off the ground, but also a tremendous number of links to other sources through which you can continue your research. Attention is also given to how you should prioritize your spending, both now and when you begin to see net revenues. I’d recommend this volume over nearly any other book (other than those directed at the craft of writing) in the self-publishing sphere. It will take me quite awhile to absorb all the useful tips and links, and I’ve been rooting around for self-publishing information for a number of years. As Siskel and Eibert used to say, two thumbs up!
